Women Section - 12 , 2007

Women Section was formed on 5th March 1978 to coincide with the International Women's Day. The first chairperson was Chi Mei Si with Ong Bee Luan as the Secretary.

Its objectives are:

1. to encourage Women Party members to assist the Party in the realization of its aims and objectives and in the implementation of its policies.

2. to encourage Women Party members to actively participate in the Party activities.

3. to encourage and promote Women movement in Sarawak in order to defend and protect women's right.

In the beginning, a pro-tem committee was formed to spear-head the task of forming Women Sections at all levels. Soon after the first unit of Women Section (Kuching Attapah was formed on 2nd June 1978, Sibu Women Section was formed on November 9th. The following year, Women Sections were also set up in Sarikei and Miri.

As one of the Party wings, the Women Section has been playing its role in assisting the Party as well as strengthening the organisation. It serves to create political awareness among Women members through seminars and workshops. It also plays significant roles in Party Elections as usually the Women Section reaches well to the grass-roots level. Since its formation, currently there are 22 Women Sections formed throughout the state.
