The SUPP Central Women Section regrets the use of such sexist remark by the 2 MPs at Parliament recently. This display of total disrespect for gender sensitivity is most disappointing as this is uttered at our country’s highest lawmaking chamber.
These MPs have been put in office to represent their constituents, both male and female amongst them, to voice their concerns on issues of national importance and not to put them in a forum where they take their roles lightly and indulge in such parlance.
In Malaysia, we have the distinction of having a Ministry specifically created for Women, Family and Community Development and having the Federal Constitution amended to reflect gender equally – by allowing such language used in our Parliament has sadly set us back in time.
SUPP Central Women Section calls for the 2 MPs to apologise for their offensive remark.
SUPP Central Women Section also calls for the Dewan to censure these MPs and all other MPs using such offensive remarks to show that while promoting freedom of speech, we are serious in preserving the decorum and dignity of the Dewan. |
